On Sunday, Andrew and I took the girls to the Venice area to check out the canals and the famous Venice Beach Boardwalk. They’d never been to the canals, and even though Peach had been to Venice Beach before, we thought it might be time to introduce Hamster to the sights and sounds of the Boardwalk. Hey, at 3 1/2, you can never be too young to witness the circus.
It’s amazing to me that these canals are actually part of some lucky people’s backyard. How nice it must be to just jump in your kayak or on your standup paddle board and drift a while, all without leaving your neighborhood. Oh, and if you get momentarily confused and think you’re actually in Venice’s namesake in Italy, there’s always the beach located less than a quarter mile away to remind you that you are indeed in Southern California. Residents here truly have the best of both worlds.
Just like Italy. But with palm trees and expensive homes.
Next stop: the Boardwalk. We didn’t spend too much time here since the littles were getting hungry, but we did manage to see all walks of life during our brief stroll. Street performers, tattoo artists, tourists, the muscle heads at Muscle Beach…you name it, they were out in full force.
Oh, and this little guy.
Because where else would you expect to see a dog on the roof of a Chinese food stand?
Only in LA.
